Why Do You Need Sinus Surgery or Revision Sinus Surgery?

Most sinus surgeries can alleviate your symptoms. In some cases, however, you might experience your symptoms returning after a period of time, or have some persisting symptoms despite the surgery.

To alleviate these symptoms, you might need to undergo a repeat procedure, referred to as Revision Sinus Surgery. If your initial procedure remained incomplete or you developed a new nasal condition that aggravated your earlier symptoms, you might need repeat surgery.

What is Revision Sinus Surgery?

During revision sinus surgery, your surgeon removes obstructions in your sinus cavities and opens them up to provide long-lasting relief. Revision surgery aims to remove any obstructions that may have not been removed during the initial surgery, or remove scar tissue that can form from recurrent sinus infections. This technique enlarges your sinus openings to allow better drainage of infection and also to allow better penetraion of topical therapies such as nasal saline irrigations with steroids or antibiotics.
