Eustachian Tube Dilation

Eustachian Tube Balloon Dilation is a surgical procedure that dilates your eustachian tubes to drain fluids from your middle ear. The surgery is performed by inserting a small balloon-like catheter into the blocked tube.

Eustachian tubes are small tubes that connect your middle ear to the back of your nose. They help equalize ear pressure and drain fluids from your middle ear. Usually, Eustachian tubes remain closed and filled with air. When you chew, swallow, or yawn, the tubes open and equalize the air from your middle ear.

The space within these tubes is minimal, and they can get plugged for various reasons, causing Eustachian Tube Dysfunction (ETD). Allergies, sinus infections, common colds, and effects of altitude change are some of the factors that clog your eustachian tubes.

Doctors don’t normally prescribe surgical treatments for ETD, as its symptoms usually resolve on their own. However, if you do require a procedure, Eustachian tube balloon dilation is a safe, FDA-approved treatment that is performed under general anesthesia or in the office.

Consult with Dr. Davis to see if Eustachian tube dilation is the right choice for you.
